In the summer of 2003, the organization Green Empowerment began an initiative to provide solar electrification for Karen medical clinics inside Burma. In Phase 1 of this initiative they supplied training and equipment (solar panel, charge controller, battery) for two such installations. In March 2004, having secured enough funding, they conducted Phase 2 with a second training and equipment sufficient for eleven additional clinics. This exhibit brings together photography that has been taken at ten of the Phase 2 locations. (Photos of the last are available here.)

The specific clinic locations are not given. Since the photos were taken, two of the clinics have actually been destroyed by the Burma Army. However, the solar installations, which were designed to be portable, were safely removed before the Army attacked.

Green Empowerment is now planning a Phase 3 for the project, for which they are seeking additional funds. Please contact them if you would be able to help.
