SUN ENERGY POWER INTERNATIONAL
PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS FOR
HUMANITARIAN CENTER IN BURMA

November 2008

SunEnergy Power International recently installed photovoltaic systems to provide electricity to a humanitarian center inside Eastern Burma that houses a medical clinic and an educational facility. The electricity will be used for lights for patient wards and operating rooms, refrigeration for medicine, and computers and communications equipment for human rights documentation. There is a severe humanitarian crisis in this area, due to the repression conducted by Burma's military junta, the SPDC, but also because the International Community will not provide cross-border assistance from Thailand, since it infringes on the regime's “sovereignty.” Were it not for independent relief organizations that provide emergency medical assistance and food, as well as partners such as SUNEPI, the villagers who are suffering in Eastern Burma would receive no help whatsoever.
